Tele-Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT)

Reducing Readmissions Post-Discharge

Reduce readmissions, provide a safe transition of care and improve cost-savings with telemedicine-based Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (tele-OPAT) services for hospitals and health systems.

What is OPAT?

Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) is an important component of antimicrobial stewardship programs designed to provide medically stable patients who require intravenous (IV) antibiotics with the care they need in an outpatient setting, rather than requiring them to stay in a hospital or facility for the entire duration of their treatment.

Consistent follow-up care after discharge plays a critical role in helping patients adhere to their treatment plans and avoid complications.

Before implementing tele-OPAT, many hospitals lacked the resources or infrastructure needed to support a dedicated OPAT program.

When care is delivered closer to home, patients are more likely to adhere to their treatment plans and achieve better outcomes.

Medically stable patients can complete their treatment safely and comfortably at home or a nearby clinic through tele-OPAT.
